Key rules for feeding cats

Expand to see the 3 most important rules

1

Wet food = the foundation

Cats drink little water. Wet food (75-80% moisture) prevents kidney and urinary tract diseases. Dry food should only be a supplement.

2

Taurine is crucial

Cats do not produce taurine - it must be in the food! A deficiency leads to blindness and heart disease. Look for at least 0.1% in the composition.

3

Meat in first place

Cats are obligate carnivores. The first ingredient should be meat, not cereals! Look for at least 70% meat in wet food.

In the ranking below, wet foods are shown first because they should form the basis of a cat's diet.
